I interned at a non-profit called Genocide Watch in Arlington, Va. during my semester long program in Washington D.C. with the American Studies Program.
The organization usually consists of the president and founder, Dr. Gregory Stanton and three interns, however, during my semester I was the only intern. At Genocide Watch I updated the two websites housing Genocide Watch's information Genocide Watch and Alliance against Genocide. I sent out newsletter updates to the organization's members and news about interesting events happening around the DC area. I planned and implemented a film screening event as a part of the organization's annual film festival. As a part of my experience I was able to attend numerous seminars and speaking events about Genocide, refugees and mass atrocity prevention. The topics were on countries like North Korea, Syria, Sudan and much more. I also researched and wrote a countries at risk report which is the organizations report about specific countries that show warning signs of genocide or mass atrocities. I started two reports one on North Korea and one on West Papua. |
